GUIDE TO WEBASSIGN
Important: Before starting WebAssign, quit any browsers that
may be in use (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer) and open a new copy.
Also, close the browser when you are finished to prevent losing credit
for the work you have done.
Logging In: Open your Web browser and enter the following Web
address
http//www.webassign.net/student.html
Enter the following information:
Username: Your first and your last name, no spaces, no hyphens
e.g.,
the username for Cecilia Vogel would be ceciliavogel.
Institution: augustana
Password: In your initial login, use your Augustana I.D. number.
(Once
logged in, you can change you password.)
Click Login.
Upon logging in, you will be directed
to register for the course at the web site. In order to register, you
will
need to either purchase a WebAssign access card from the bookstore or
register online with a credit card. You must register
by Sep 15 or you will not be able to continue to use the WebAssign
program.
To work on an assignment, click on the name of the assignment you wish
to complete. (It is not necessary that you complete the assignment demo.)
You will receive the assignment – including
a list of questions and boxes for inserting answers.
General Comments:
-
Problems will in general be worth 10-20 points. The point value for
each
"sub-answer" in a problem will be shown in front of the appropriate
"answer
box".
-
In general, answers will be graded as correct if they are within 1% of
the expected answer. This is why it is important to use at least 3
significant
figures in your answers, and not round off until your final answer.
-
Numbers that appear in red in the statement of a problem have been
randomized
which means that you will have a different version of the same basic
question
as your classmates.
-
All problems in these assignments are from the textbook so there is no
need to print a copy of the WebAssign questions.
-
You should work problems on paper as neatly as possible and keep a copy
for future reference. This will also make it easier to find errors and
correct them if you resubmit your work for grading.
-
Numerical answers must not contain commas, equal signs, or
units.
Expected units are already written next to the answer box. Answers may
be submitted in several formats including fractions and scientific
notation.
For example, if the answer is "one over sixty-four", your response may
be in any of the following forms: 1/64, 0.015625, 0.0156, .0156,
1.56e-2,
or 1.56E-2.
When you have answered all the questions on an assignment and are ready
to submit your work for grading, click the link Submit for
grading at the bottom of the assignment. Note: To insure
that
your submission is recorded, wait for a reply from the server. Do not
click more than once on the submit button, since this will result
in
the waste of one of your allowed submission attempts.
You will receive immediate feedback in the form of a grade and
detailed
marks, i.e., which responses are correct and which are wrong.
You may resubmit your answers (no more than 4 submissions total),
editing your most recent submission by
changing just the wrong answers. Leave your correct answers as they
have
already been entered. When the editing process is complete, click on
the
Submit for grading button. Your grade for the assignment will be
the grade received for the last submission of answers by the deadline.
If you decide to log off and resubmit your answers at a later time,
you will see the answers from your last submission when you log on
again
and bring up the assignment. At this point, the editing process will be
the same as that described in the preceding paragraph.
