"More of Cranach and the Reformation"

It is surprising that there are more than 70 paintings and countless woodcuts and engravings by Cranach and or his workshop in the United States. These paintings and woodcuts depict a variety of subjects including portraits of princes and leading citizens, hunting and jousting scenes, classical and mythological topics, themes from the Old and New Testaments or representations of saints and martyrs.

This article concentrates on the works of Cranach at the Ackland Museum of Art, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; the Minneapolis Institute of Art; woodcuts from the Apocalypse, facsimile edition, Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois; and woodcuts at the Art Institute of Chicago.
