Comet C/1999 S4 discovered by project LINEAR

Each frame of this animation was a 5 second exposure and measures approximately 6 x 10 arcminutes.  The camera was an ST-6 CCD mounted on a Celestron C-14 telescope located in the on-campus observatory of Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois.  The photos were taken starting at 10:40 pm CDT on July 23, 2000 by David Renneke and Mel Peterson.  The altitude was 19o and the azimuth was 315o.   The star in the upper left hand corner is GSC 3442:413, magnitude 10.85, RA 10h 44m 16s, Dec +45o  34' 2".
