Workshop W3.  "What's a Good Question... for motivating learning or checking understanding in highly interactive lectures?",  Fred Hartline, Division of Educational Programs, Argonne National Laboratory, Friday morning, 10:00 am to noon.  Moulton 307-C.


Planetarium program, "Mars Watch", Thomas Willmitch, Director, Friday at 11:00 am, Felmley Hall 167, east end of building.  Enter through the double glass doors on the north side of the planetarium.  Free of charge and open to all meeting registrants.  Doors close at the start.  No reservations are required.

On August 27, 2003 Mars was closer to the Earth than it has been in the last 57,000 years!  The Mars photo on the left was taken by Martin Mobberley on August 16, 2003 using a webcam and a 30 cm telescope.   This NASA page includes a Java applet that shows the motion of the Earth and Mars around the Sun.

  • Invited Talk - "Long-term Recruitment: Community Outreach and the Solar System Ambassador Program", Dr. Daniel Holland, NASA Solar System Ambassador, Illinois State University, Saturday at 11:00 am

  The 2003 Distinguished Service Citation will be awarded at the banquet on Friday evening.  The recipient is Dr. Robert C. Frank, Professor Emeritus of Physics at Augustana College.  Congratulations, Bob!    

Contributed papers are scheduled on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

  • The Council has a regular meeting scheduled for Saturday morning at 7:30 am.  Here is the agenda.

  • There will a business meeting of the organization during lunch on Saturday.

  • There will be a "planning/vision meeting" immediately following the business meeting on Saturday.  Everyone is encouraged to attend and share their ideas for future ISAAPT programs and activities.

  • The meeting will conclude at about 1:00 pm

  • Parking on and around the ISU campus is highly regulated. The most convenient parking will be available in the Bone Student Center parking lot at a rate of 80 cents per hour.  This lot is on Locust Street, one block east of Main Street (US 51).

  • Registration on Friday is in Moulton Hall, room 311, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  On Saturday it is in  Stevenson Hall, room 401 from 8:30 to 9:30.  Here is a printer-friendly labeled campus map (PDF).  It will print in landscape format.
