Minutes of the Fall Council Meeting
Highland Community College
Student/Conference Center - Room 206

October 24, 1998

The meeting was called to order by President Carl Wenning at 7:35 am. Those attending were Carl Wenning, Eric Peterson, Tom Snyder, Dave Sykes, Roger Malcolm, Kathy Qin, Ann Brandon, Conley Stutz, Gary Wolber, Steve Weber, Dave Cornell, Roger Reeves, Yan Lwin, Debby Lojkutz, Curt Hieggelke, Bill Conway and David Renneke.

The minutes of the Spring 1998 council meeting were presented and approved. The treasurer's report showed a balance of $3,017.92 as of October 24, 1998.

Our section representative, Conley Stutz, reported that the workshop fees at the national AAPT meetings have nearly doubled. Much of this is due to the need for computer support for many of the workshops.

Curt Hieggelke suggested that the list of national officers and the list of section representatives be added to our mailing list for the Illinois Physics Teacher.

Dave Sykes of the Nominating Committee presented the following list of names, scheduled for action during the business meeting of the section later today:

Narendra Jaggi - President-Elect

Conley Stutz - Section Representative (term expires in 2001)

Deborah Lojkutz - for Council, four-year term, high school, class of 2002

Dierk Hofreiter- for Council, four-year term, 2-year college, class of 2002

John Askill - for Council, four-year term, 4-year college, class of 2002

Dave Sykes expressed his thanks to all of the outgoing Council members (Bill Conway, Tom Snyder and Dave Cornell) and to retiring president, Carl Wenning.

Carl Wenning announced that the ad hoc planning committee for the Spring 1999 meeting will meet in room 206 at 12:30 pm today.

Eric Peterson reported that as of this morning, 65 people were registered for this meeting.

Thanks were expressed to Roger Malcolm and Roger Reeves for their work this past year. A motion was made, seconded and carried (MSC) that Roger Malcolm continue to serve as our Publicity Chair and Section Editor. MSC that Roger Reeves continue to serve as the editor of the Illinois Physics Teacher.

MSC to accept the invitation of Eastern Illinois University (via Keith Andrew) to host the Spring 2002 meeting of ISAAPT. MSC to accept the invitation of Principia College (via Dave Cornell) to host the Fall 2002 meeting of ISAAPT. It was announced that the University of Illinois would like to invite the Chicago section of AAPT to have a joint meeting with ISAAPT in Urbana-Champaign in the Spring of 2000. The Fall 1999 meeting at Augustana College will be a joint meeting with the Iowa and Illinois sections of AAPT.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:27 am.
