Minutes of the Spring Council Meeting
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
April 20, 1996

The meeting was called to order by President Roger Reeves at 7:06 am. Those attending were Curtis Hieggelke, Conley Stutz, Eric Peterson, Tom Snyder, Dave Cornell, Roger Reeves, Bill Conway, Fred Zurheide, Carl Wenning, Tim Wagner, Wei Qin, Roger Malcolm, Jack Mochel and Dave Renneke.

The minutes of the Fall 1995 council meeting were presented and approved. The oral treasurer's report indicated a balance of $3,239.69.

Section Representative Curt Hieggelke discussed his written report. A motion was made, seconded and carried (MSC) that Conley Stutz be the recipient of the 1996 Distinguished Service Citation to be presented at the Fall meeting. It was noted that Eric Curry of O'Fallon Township High School, O'Fallon, was honored last night as the recipient of the 1996 High School Teacher Award.

Jack Mochel reported that 80 people were at the banquet last night and 110 are registered so far.

MSC that we accept, with regret, the resignation of Nick Drozdoff from the Council. Roger Reeves appointed Tim Wagner to replace Nick on the Committee for the High School Teacher Award.

Carl Wenning presented a written proposal for a Student Research Awards Program. A motion was made and seconded to approve this proposal. There was a discussion about the amount for the awards. The motion was passed with the understanding that the awards be given at the Spring meeting.

Carl Wenning reported that the Spring 1997 meeting to be hosted by Illinois State University on April 11-12, 1997, will have about $1,000 of support from ISU. Fred Zurheide officially offered that SIUE will host the Fall 1997 meeting but that the dates have not been chosen yet. Other schools that indicated an interest in hosting future meetings in 1998 include Western Illinois University and Freeport Community College.

There was discussion of a list server for members of ISAAPT. Carl Wenning offered to look into establishing one, perhaps starting with the council members.

There was a general discussion of the fact that teacher certification standards are changing in the state of Illinois.

Dave Renneke announced that he has prepared new ISAAPT letterhead paper with names of the 1996 officers along the left edge. Copies were distributed to the officers.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:16 am.
