Section Representative Report
Illinois Section of AAPT
August, 2000

Conley Stutz

The summer meeting of the AAPT was held at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada from July 28 through August 2, 2000.  Saturday the 28 and Sunday the 29 were dedicated to Workshops and meetings.  The Section Representatives’ meeting was held the evening of the 29th.

At this meeting, the Summer Meeting, the Representatives may make recommendations to the Executive Board through the Section Representatives’ chair, but do not meet as the Council until the Winter Meeting.   We were informed that the vote on the revisions in the AAPT constitution is pending.   These revisions require a vote by the membership and therefore members might expect to receive a ballot sometime within the next year.  The treasurer reported that the Association stayed within the budget guidelines during the past year and in fact showed a surplus.   Steve Ione, the chair of the Representatives, reported on the actions of the Executive Board. No action was required of the Representatives although input was sought from them. Bernie Khoury, the executive officer and other office personnel answered question from those present.  We were informed that section members joining the AAPT for the first time might do so by paying one-half the regular dues for the first year.

The Section Officers Exchange was held on Monday evening, the 29th.   During this meeting the officers from the various sections exchanged ideas regarding section meetings in their area.   In particular we shared our experiences regarding financing meetings and in particular supporting speakers.  We also discussed successes and failures when holding combined and regional meetings.
