To all Illinois Physics Teachers,
Students, and those in the St. Louis, Missouri, area,
Principia College takes pleasure in inviting you to the spring meeting of the
Illinois Section, American Association of Physics Teachers. Please
set aside the dates now and plan to come. Plan ahead so you can easily
submit your abstract in plenty of time. The meeting will be a celebration
of new ways of learning, teaching, performing labs, all kinds of student-faculty
interactions. There will be ample time to meet old friends and make new
ones. The new architectural-award-winning Principia Science Center will be
the site of the meeting, and the College Observatory will be open for observing,
weather permitting.
Watch the ISAAPT Web page http://helios.augustana.edu/isaapt for details of the meeting as they unfold, including registration, meals, accommodations, and an update on programs. Linked to this page you will find the Call for Papers, including options to contribute a paper or a Take Five presentation. The Student Research Symposium will also be held at this meeting. Workshops will meet on Friday morning except for the Toys and Physics workshop on Saturday afternoon. You will be able to register online via the Web site.

Special Event - Dave
Cornell Retirement Celebration
6:00 pm, April 21, 2001
As hard as it is for us to believe, Dave Cornell is retiring. He has been teaching part time since January 2000, and expects to retire from teaching at Principia in July 2002. We plan to have a dinner in his honor on Saturday evening, April 21, at 6:00 pm in the main dining room, Howard Student Center (cafeteria style). The Principia physics department will pay for the cost of the meal.
After the meal, we will go over to Wanemaker Hall where there will be a symposium given by former Dave Cornell students from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Students will share details of their careers, and possibly how their undergraduate experience led them in their respective career paths.
This could be thought of as a continuation of the ISAAPT meeting, but it is certainly optional. We would like to have people register in advance via the meeting registration form, but no fee is required.
