In conjunction with the nationwide celebration of the 300th birthday of Benjamin Franklin, the Augustana Chapter of the Society of Physics Students will host a "Franklin is Electric!" Open House. The free public demonstrations are aimed at upper-elementary-school children.  Augustana students will present demonstrations introducing the investigations and inventions of Ben Franklin in many areas of science.

1.  Electricity and Magnetism. There will be demonstrations such as a Van de Graaff generator
and discharge tubes, in honor of Franklin's famous work with lightning and electricity.

2.  Thermodynamics.  Demonstrations using heat, cold, and infrared radiation, in honor of
Franklin's invention of the Ben Franklin stove and his studies of the radiation of  heat.

3.  Acoustics. Sound and wave demonstrations, including music played on wine glasses,
honor Franklin's invention of the glass armonica.

4.  Astronomy.  Ben Franklin invented the notion of Daylight Savings Time, and in his honor,
we demonstrate the astronomical cause of the changing length of days with
                             seasons and other astronomical phenomena.
