● Annual New Member Induction Banquet.  This event will be on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at 5:00 pm.  It will be in the Wilson Center at Augustana College.  Our guest speaker that evening will be Dr. Patrick Megonigal of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Maryland.  His topic will be "Dig It!  The Secrets of Soil" in which he will tell us about the Soil Exhibition that opened in July, 2008 at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.  The lecture is jointly sponsored by Sigma Xi, the Merck Institute for Science Education, the Illinois-Iowa Section of the American Chemical Society, and the science departments at Augustana College.

● Research Presentations.  New associate members of the chapter inducted on Nov. 20 will present either a 10 minute talk or a poster describing the research that they have been doing.  This will be on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at 6:30 pm.

● NOVA Science Now.  A panel of local scientists will discuss topics covered in recent NOVA programs.  This is being planned for Wednesday, Apr. 22, 2009 at 6:30 pm.
