PH 102 - Principles of Physics II - Winter 2003-2004

The topics covered in this course include thermodynamics, electricity, electric circuits, superconductivity, magnetism, and electromagnetic waves.

Comments on Test 2

  • Chapter 16 - omit 16-10 (DNA Structure and Replication)
  • Chapter 17 - omit 17-6 (Electric Dipoles), omit 17-11 (The Electrocardiogram - ECG or EKG)
  • Chapter 18 - delay 18-8 (Alternating Current) to later when we cover Chapter 21, omit 18-10 (The Nervous System)
  • Include:  19-6 (Capacitors in Series and Parallel
  • Review your notes, review the chapter summaries, look over your homework
  • Equations and constants will be provided.  You need to know what the symbols represent.
  • Types of questions:  multiple choice, problems, charging an electroscope, electric field lines and equipotentials, superconductivity
  • Partial credit is given for problem solutions if the physics is correct but mistakes are made in the calculations
  • Bring your calculator
  • Get a good night's sleep before the day of the test.  Cramming the night before seldom works.
  • Read over the entire test before starting the first problem. Your subconscious will start working on the latter problems.  Express answers to three significant figures.

Please read the Guide to WebAssign for instructions on logging in and how to proceed.  Look at this spreadsheet to check out the 1% tolerance of WebAssign answers.  In general, express answers to at least 3 significant figures.
