The topics covered in this course include (a) fluids, oscillations, waves (in general), sound waves, (b) temperature, heat, kinetic theory of gases, entropy, and (c) electromagnetic waves, polarization, reflection and refraction, images with mirrors and lenses, optical instruments, interference, and diffraction.  Bottom of page.
There will be a review session lead by Kristin Hanekamp on Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 6:00-7:00 pm in Science 305.
 
  • Use WebAssign for the Friday homework.  Please read the Guide to WebAssign for instructions on logging in and how to proceed.  Look at this spreadsheet to check out the 1% tolerance of WebAssign answers.  In general, express answers to at least 3 significant figures.

  • Do the homework for Discussion on paper.  You should have it completed when you come to your section.  We will go over the solutions of these problems, often coupled with demonstrations.  We will solve one or two other problems, as time permits.  Hand in your papers at the end of the period.
