Augustana Lutheran Church - Andover, Illinois

    Pamphlet - Erwin Weber - 1975

This is the second church building of the Augustana Lutheran Church. It is still used by the Augustana congregation in Andover. The church was dedicated in 1869. This was less than twenty years after its first members came fresh from Sweden. The had begun to break the prairie sod and to build new homes in a strange land. Yet, the church was of solid masonry construction. Its dimensions rivaled those of the great churches of their homeland. Originally, it seated about 2,000 people. Even today, entering the Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover is an awesome experience.
