Anderson Siblings

Fourteen children were born to the Halleck and (Ina) Myrtle (Tennis) Anderson, a farm family of Norwegian ancestry.

Given below are age of each sibling relative to the youngest, alive/deceased(†) status (as of June 2006), birth/death dates, plus name of spouse (including their birth/death dates where known), and names of children:

  2. †Chester Seymour [+20 years, born 20 July 1911, died 10 November 1945; married Hazel Mattsfield, b. 2 May 1916, who later remarried and died September 9, 2007 (Hazel's second husband, Clinton Tracy, b. 22 June 1913, died 16 September 1997); Chester's children: Kay and Steve; Hazel and Clinton's child: Jim]
  3. †Mildred Constance [+19 years, born 29 November 1912, died 25 January 2002; was married to and later divorced from Arnold Madson; Mildred's children: †Arlen, Marlowe, †Dean, and †Gary]
  4. †Lloyd [+18 years, who died as a baby]
  5. †Margaret Inger [+17 years, born 7 January 1915, died 20 June 1991; was married to Willard "Shorty" Nystrom, b. 1 April 1916, who died 14 January 1999; Margaret's children: James ("Jim") and Wendy (both adopted)]
  6. †Lloyd H. (Hallack?) [+16 years, born 16 November 1916, died 3 May 1942 as a POW; never married]
  7. Evelyn Palma [+13/14 years, alive, born 24 January 1918; was married to LeRoy Berg, b. 1 May 1922, who died 29 September 1983; Evelyn's children: Richard and Connie]
  8. †Roy Louellon [+12 years, born 3 May 1919, died 10 November 1967; married Betty Lou Nelson, b. 11 May 1922, who latter remarried and died 1 May 1993; Roy's children: †Cheryl, Bobbette ("Bobbe"); †Martin ("Marty"); and Larry]
  9. Clarice Mae (May?) [+10/11 years, alive, born 16 May 1921; was married to Glenn Grove, b. 21 February 1926, who died in the line of duty as a sheriff's deputy on 24 September 1976; Clarice's child: Lisa (plus Gregory, who died as an infant)]
  10. †Maurice Donald ("Bud") [+8 years, born 23 April 1923, died 3 April 1995; married Ruth Johnson, who is still living; Bud's children: Diane, †Maureen, Suzanne, and Colleen (plus one more who died as an infant)]
  11. †George Albert [+6 years, died at age 9 on 8 January 1934]
  12. Helen Marlys [+5 years, alive, born 14 May 1926; was married to Alvin O. "Bud" Grove, b. 5 November 1927, who died 24 December 1988; Helen's children: Myrna, Robert ("Bob"), and Kathleen ("Kathy")]
  13. †Halleck Marvin, "Halleck Jr." [+1 year, died as a baby on 14 January 1931]
  14. Leo Marvin [born 2 June 1931, my father, alive; married to Irene Myrtle Bratland, b. 28 September 1932, who is still alive; Leo's children: Keith, Karen, Kevin, Kent, and Kristofer ("Kris")]

Their father, Halleck C. Anderson, was born on 30 September 1882 in North Dakota to parents Christopher and Inga (Larson) Anderson. He died on 3 August 1947 at the age of 64 in Litchfield, Minnesota.

Their mother, (Ina) Myrtle Tennis was born on 26 February 1887. She died on 24 December 1979 at the age of 92 in Litchfield, MN.

Halleck and Myrtle were married on 19 October 1909.

Here are the six Anderson sisters, altogether in one place. They are (if I have the names correct from my dad), from left to right: Margaret, Mildred, Helen, Clarice, Hazel, and Evelyn.
Here are various Anderson's siblings and spouses of Anderson's. Here I believe is the order (I'm guessing here, so help is desired): [Front Row, L-R] "Bud" Grove (Helen's husband); Irene (my mom, wife of Leo), and Leo (my dad, the youngest); [Back Row, L-R] Margaret, and her husband Willard "Shorty" Nystrom; possibly Clarice and her husband Glenn Grove; Unknown; Hazel; Maurice ("Bud") and I believe his wife Ruth (or another Anderson sister).
Here is a late 1950s or early 1960s slide of mother Myrtle, several Anderson siblings and spouses, plus several kids/grandkids. Pictured among the adults are [I believe I am correct(???), L-R]: Hazel, Irene (wife of Leo, and my mother), Archie Marshall (Hazel's husband), Leroy Berg, who is married to and standing behind Evelyn, Alvin "Bud" Grove, who is married to and standing behind Helen, and Myrtle. I am not sure who the kids are yet. Leo (my dad) is taking the picture.

This was taken in Forest Lake, in the backyard of my family's Birch Knoll house, so possibly at either a high-school graduation or confirmation gathering for my family.

Here are my parent's, Leo and Irene, along with my older brother Keith and sister Karen. I am not born yet, so this looks to be sometime in 1956 (judging by Karen's size).

A Christmas pose of Grandmother Myrtle and numerous grandkids. These kids are children of several Anderson siblings, including Leo, Helen, Evelyn, Margaret, and Clarice. That means this picture was also taken in either Litchfield or Willmar, where most of them pictured here (all but the Leo Anderson family) lived, and likely early to mid-1960s. Here I believe is the correct order and names: [back row, starting with the guys] Rob, Richard, Jim, and Myrna; [middle or front row, starting with the girls] Wendy, Karen, Kathy, Grandmother Myrtle, with Lisa on her lap, Connie, Kevin (in front of Connie), and Keith; with it looks like Kent in partial view on a parent's lap on the far left edge.

(Bobbe, Cheryl, and Marty are Roy's kids, and Kay and Steve are Chester's, with Jimmy being the third child of Chester's widow (Hazel), who had remarried after Chester's death.)
A picture of a young Kay Anderson Tracy, Chester's oldest, and I believe the first among all my cousins.

And, finally, because I like it: A picture of my dad, Leo, while he was in the Air Force and I believe stationed overseas in Morocco at Nouasseur Air Base. Note the portrait picture of my mom behind his shoulder on the left, and a picture of my mom and brother, Keith, next to the other shoulder. Leo was in the U.S. Air Force from March 1, 1951, until February 28, 1955.
